London loves the Black Eyed Peas – Hyde Park July 2011

On Friday 1 July, 2011 the Black Eyed Peas played a sell out concert of 65,000 people in London’s Hyde Park. The Black Eyed Peas are not just singers, they are artists and performers. They are what good music is all about. The crowd went crazy for Will when he DJed - he played some oldies, a little Michael Jackson and Usher too.

and Fergie’s solo -

Don't you love Big Girl's Don't Cry?!

Fergie had several outfit changes and she's learn some new flexible moves and gyrations. When she decides to have a baby, you can so see her showing off her belly, performing and singing My Bump :)

They know how to work a crowd. These guys are at the height of their career. I haven't seen crowds go crazy like this in a long time, they were jumping, dancing and singing. A lot of thought also went into the layout of the stage with a small stage protruding into the crowd, a platform that  elevated Will when he DJed, and a second level that made it easier for people to see them because the crowd was heaving and pressing forward and there were some sitting on shoulders - yep totally wild, but very safe and considerate given it all.

Their latest songs don’t surpass classics like Pump It and My Humps, but The Time / Dirty Bit and Just Can't Get Enough totally rock. The Time / Dirty Bit goes back to the style that has made them famous, taking a well loved tune and making it fresh and new - a la Pump It which does a take on one of the most loved tracks from Pulp Fiction

They brought the first real signs of summer weather. And not only were the crowds impressed by them, but the BEP may have been a little in awe at the sight of 65,000 people.

There were lots of cool background images. A very touching and personal story before they sang Where is the Love and had everyone waving their phones around, lighting up the park. There was a great little rap about tweeting. It was one of the best nights out. And they totally give it to their fans, and you get the sense they still have fun even though they've sung these songs hundreds of times.

The band are taking a break - pursuing other projects, solo, baby or whatever. So we won't see will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo together. They are hugely successful, so is this getting out while it's good? Hopefully they will not be away for too long. What will I work out to in the gym?

Hyde Park has a number of other concerts this summer. The Black Eyed Peas are also currently touring. But it will be hard for any city or venue to surpass Hyde Park July 2011, 65,000 people, it truly was amazing.
